New Ferrari Soccer Shoes

Yes, you saw correctly: Ferrari - one of the world's best automobile manufacturers, has teamed up with PUMA, one of the world's best boot manufacturers, to create one of the fastest soccer boots ever!

Some of the following details are taken from the official PUMA press release.

PUMA® merges the worlds of Motorsport and Soccer with the introduction of the limited edition PUMA v1.815 i FG Ferrari Soccer Shoes (PUMA Red/Team Gold)
. Developed by PUMA’s performance footwear designers, the high-tech v1.815, with its aerodynamic silhouette, pays homage to Ferrari racing cars and is designed to be one of the lightest and fastest boots on the market.

What makes them similar

Around the same time that Ferrari built its first car, PUMA took to the soccer field. After founding the company in 1948, Rudolf Dassler developed his revolutionary idea for soccer boots with removable studs. The two companies have made their way in two different sport worlds, but both embrace a long history of innovation and performance excellence.

“PUMA, as well as Ferrari, dedicates its full design and development attention to shave off millimeters and milliseconds,” said Filip Trulsson, Teamsport Business Unit manager for PUMA. “Collaborating with our long-term partner Ferrari on the v1.815 super lightweight project has not only been an industry first for football [soccer] footwear, more importantly it has delivered a new performance benchmark to players.”

These amazing boots are available worldwide on March 27th 2009 - but are available for pre-order now - in conjunction with the first F1 Grand Prix of the season. Intended to be worn by skilled players, the limited edition v1.815 was two years in development and features state-of-the-art technologies in its design.

Specifications follow:

CHASSIS

The lightweight Pebax® frame constitutes the outsole base and houses a carbon fiber composite insert that enhances speed and stability. The transparent outsole offers a unique look at the boot’s engineering, while the forefoot stud configuration ensures smooth ground penetration, as well as optimal traction and maneuverability.

UPPER

The upper’s lightweight textile material is highly abrasion-resistant. It has been treated with a dirt and water repellent coating to ensure an unprecedented ball touch.

HEEL COUNTER

The minimalist external heel counter provides protection from external forces and supports the heel and ankle during sudden direction changes. The rear stud configuration is designed and positioned to support natural running movement.

LACING

The heat cut around the eyestay provides additional flexibility and softness, enabling the shoe to be tied around the foot like a glove. The off-centered lacing increases the kicking area, improving pressure distribution and reducing force from ball impact.

APTOLAST

The PUMA AptoLast sets ergonomic and aesthetic benchmarks for soccer footwear. It conforms to the foot’s natural curvatures and provides a glove-like fit that allows the upper to perfectly mold to the player’s foot.

With a retail price of $299 and only 815 pairs available worldwid, PUMA’s v1.815 ultimate performance boot is intended for the serious soccer player.
