Ireland 09/10 Away Soccer Jersey

When the Republic of Ireland goes on the road for their UEFA World Cup qualifying, this is the shirt – sans EIRCOM - they’ll be sporting.

Ireland 09/10 Away Soccer Jersey

Beginning with their match against Italy in World Cup 2010 qualifier in Bari on April 1st, 2009.

Interestingly, Ireland is the only national team, that we know of, which has a shirt sponsor – I had to google EIRCOM – Ireland’s leading broadband and content provider: http://www.eircom.net/. However, per terms of a sponsorship agreement, shirts worn by the players do not.

Man United FA Cup Retro Gear

The team who holds the record for most FA Cup trophies (11) -Manchester United - is set to take on Everton in the FA Cup semis April 19, so we thought we'd turn back the clock and bring some old Man United FA Cup Glory, Glory!

These are the newest retro products we have for Manchester United:

Manchester United 1963 FA Cup Soccer Jersey

The 1963 FA Cup Final, the 82nd season of England's premier club football competition: played on 25 May 1963 and contested by Manchester United and Leicester City. United won 3–1, with a goal from Denis Law and two from David Herd.

The importance of televised coverage came to the fore this year as the two sides tossed for choice of colours despite traditionally wearing red and blue shirts respectively. Those colours would look identical to the viewers on their black and white televisions so Leicester, having lost the toss switched to white.

Manchester United 1983 FA Cup Winners Away Soccer Jersey

Manchester United 1983 FA Cup Winners Soccer Jersey

The 1983 FA Cup Final was contested by Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley. Manchester United were heavilly favored, as Brighton had been relegated from the First Division that season.

The first match finished 2-2 after extra time. Gordon Smith and Gary Stevens scored for Brighton; Frank Stapleton and Ray Wilkins for United.

The second game on the Thursday night went all the Red Devils' way, as Captain Bryan Robson, Norman Whiteside, and Arnold Muhren scored for United in a 4-0 victory. This was the first of three times that Bryan Robson captained Manchester United to FA Cup glory; he also achieved the feat in 1985 and 1990.

Ire Away

Just under a week left for the Big Day, yup, St. Patrick's Day. And with that, we're proud to bring you a unique blog today: one that won't link you to any product on WorldSoccerShop that you can buy or pre-order. The reason is, for once, we're allowed to show images of a jersey launch, but not yet sell the jersey.

I didn't understand it either, but let's roll with it, and enjoy some of the images provided by Umbro and the Ireland National Football Team, including the new away jersey - plus details on the new Ireland retail store - while plans for a US online store are progressing nicely.

Umbro Ireland in conjunction with the FAI and Carroll’s Irish Gift Stores has opened the first UMBRO IRELAND SUPPORTERS STORE. The store opened its doors for business on Saturday morning at 9am and despite it being a hectic 6 Nations (rugby) weekend it had a very successful “soft opening”. The store is a 1,200 sq ft space in Carroll’s Irish Gift store on Westmorland Street in Dublin City centre. This will be the first location where 100% of the FAI Umbro product will be available under one roof. March promises to be a busy month for the store with the launch of the New Ireland AWAY KIT (MARCH 20th) that will be worn against Italy in the World Cup 2010 qualifier in Bari on April 1st. About 65% of the product is FAI, 25% is Umbro product (including International, Premier League, League of Ireland and European Umbro sponsored teams kits) and 10% will be Score draw ( an official retro company dealing with such clubs and associations as Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Celtic, Man City, Everton, West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, FAI, SFA, IFA etc etc www.scoredraw.com ). The store will also feature a high quality FAI Giftware collection from mid summer 09, this will include, key-rings, mugs, pens, autograph books etc. The store has been opened for and is focused on the fantastic Irish Football Supporters; in-store music and video related to the Irish national team are playing to help create a suitable stadium atmosphere. The official opening will be the week of the Ireland V Bulgaria game when we hope to have Irish International team manager Giovanni Trapattoni and some of the Irish players attend a signing session in the store. We also hope to build national media coverage (TV, Radio, Print) week commencing 23rd March. The store will be open 7 days a week and will soon have a full front facing FAI window display on Westmorland Street. Umbro currently has over 1,200 owned and operated stores worldwide.

This is Umbro Ireland’s (Toplion Sportswear) first step into retail in Ireland and it will be quickly followed by the second Umbro Store which will be situated at Shamrock Rovers new stadium in Tallaght. This store is currently under construction and will hopefully be open for Shamrock Rovers first home game on March 13th. The store will be Shamrock Rovers official supporters store and it will also carry the wider range of Umbro product ( including team-wear for local teams www.umbro.ie ) as with the FAI Supporters Store. Please drop into either store at your convenience and let us know what you think.

New Ferrari Soccer Shoes

Yes, you saw correctly: Ferrari - one of the world's best automobile manufacturers, has teamed up with PUMA, one of the world's best boot manufacturers, to create one of the fastest soccer boots ever!

Some of the following details are taken from the official PUMA press release.

PUMA® merges the worlds of Motorsport and Soccer with the introduction of the limited edition PUMA v1.815 i FG Ferrari Soccer Shoes (PUMA Red/Team Gold)
. Developed by PUMA’s performance footwear designers, the high-tech v1.815, with its aerodynamic silhouette, pays homage to Ferrari racing cars and is designed to be one of the lightest and fastest boots on the market.

What makes them similar

Around the same time that Ferrari built its first car, PUMA took to the soccer field. After founding the company in 1948, Rudolf Dassler developed his revolutionary idea for soccer boots with removable studs. The two companies have made their way in two different sport worlds, but both embrace a long history of innovation and performance excellence.

“PUMA, as well as Ferrari, dedicates its full design and development attention to shave off millimeters and milliseconds,” said Filip Trulsson, Teamsport Business Unit manager for PUMA. “Collaborating with our long-term partner Ferrari on the v1.815 super lightweight project has not only been an industry first for football [soccer] footwear, more importantly it has delivered a new performance benchmark to players.”

These amazing boots are available worldwide on March 27th 2009 - but are available for pre-order now - in conjunction with the first F1 Grand Prix of the season. Intended to be worn by skilled players, the limited edition v1.815 was two years in development and features state-of-the-art technologies in its design.

Specifications follow:

The lightweight Pebax® frame constitutes the outsole base and houses a carbon fiber composite insert that enhances speed and stability. The transparent outsole offers a unique look at the boot’s engineering, while the forefoot stud configuration ensures smooth ground penetration, as well as optimal traction and maneuverability.

The upper’s lightweight textile material is highly abrasion-resistant. It has been treated with a dirt and water repellent coating to ensure an unprecedented ball touch.

The minimalist external heel counter provides protection from external forces and supports the heel and ankle during sudden direction changes. The rear stud configuration is designed and positioned to support natural running movement.

The heat cut around the eyestay provides additional flexibility and softness, enabling the shoe to be tied around the foot like a glove. The off-centered lacing increases the kicking area, improving pressure distribution and reducing force from ball impact.

The PUMA AptoLast sets ergonomic and aesthetic benchmarks for soccer footwear. It conforms to the foot’s natural curvatures and provides a glove-like fit that allows the upper to perfectly mold to the player’s foot.

With a retail price of $299 and only 815 pairs available worldwid, PUMA’s v1.815 ultimate performance boot is intended for the serious soccer player.

England’s World Cup 2010 ‘Shirt’

We’re proud to give you the The Official Umbro England National Soccer Team 09/10 Line available for Pre-Order. You can’t miss ‘em; they’re the ones with the mannequin images.

Unfortunately, like the products themselves, images are not yet available, but we could tell you that there is a redesigned crest, and that this is not only the gear England will be wearing to qualify to South Africa 2010 but will also be wearing during the games – at least the Home Shirt

The following is from Umbro

With England 2009 we are entering the first phase of Umbro’s brand reset. New England is about more than just another kit – it’s a new concept and a key brand driver.

The new concept we have created around England is a result of mashing performance with style and thereby creating a new form – “Football Tailored”.
The foundations for this are something that already existed in our brand’s history, having invented the notion of sportswear and Football tailoring some 85 years ago. Acknowledging our long tradition and utilizing all the benefits of modern technology, we have created our own unique, bold move that will change the perception of Umbro.

With this launch we are not only communicating the Football Tailored concept and our involvement with the game and England, but we have also shifted the perception of the current jersey from being an icon of English football to an icon of English culture.
