New Product Alert: Aston Villa 08/09 Away Jersey

I just got my Brand New Aston Villa 08/09 Away Jersey. This NikeFIT jersey is very good looking. The teal they used for the main portion of the jersey is a beautiful color, and contrasts nicely with the black on the sleeves and collar. Despite having such a different color scheme, the jersey is surprisingly subtle. This gives the jersey a very classic look. Also, the "acorns" sponsor logo is just subtle enough to keep from overpowering the shirt. Last but not least, there is a nice little piece on the inside of the neck that says "Proud History * Bright Future". A nice touch for a nice jersey. The only small issue that I have with the shirt is that the badge clashes a bit with the rest of the shirt (but it would be silly to change the color of your club badge to match the rest of your jersey, right?). But overall this is a very classy jersey that I will definitely be sporting on matchday (like today).

New Cruz Azul Jerseys: How Cement Can Be So Light

The board of the team Cruz Azul has offered us (Umbro) a great challenge. Capture the renewed footballing spirit the team has launched in every sense throughout their match kits. Reflect the attitude of risk and courage they took when bringing big names while trusting players from their youth ranks as well as enthusiastic young foreigners.

With this philosophy, we have been inspired to have taken the chance to break paradigms and at the same time, create an original garment, distinguished and with unequaled technology and quality, just like the quality of Cementos Cruz Azul. The color was a fundamental part: it had to be a commercially appealing, original, daring, and elegant color.

With this profile of characteristics, we got lots of ideas, the most spectacular and original of which being, paradoxically, the most simple.

We returned to the roots of Cruz Azul, to the cementers, to the coop laborers, to the sacks of cement, to the sand of the hill of limestone, and from this we came to the color sand.

We added some vanguard design elements and on the back we used a fabric with Body Mapping, a weave which outlines the contours of the human body, following the shape of the muscles and the skeleton, thereby guaranteeing the players’ total and absolute comfort. Morever, every back is unique and it has to be aligned piece by piece in such a way that each size adjusts perfectly to this ‘Map of the Human Body” turned into a fabric. To this garment has been applied with the nano molecular finish which provides extraordinary lightness, weighing only 180 grams with which complements a spectacular garment and with the highest technology in all the continent.

Introducing the new Umbro Cruz Azul match kit.

Umbro and Cruz Azul, two leading institutions in their field, started their comercial relationship in 2002. Since that time, Umbro has created collections of the highest quality, technology and good taste for Cruz Azul.

Umbro dedicates 100% of its time to soccer. Our passion and dedication to this sport is unmatched in the industry.
That is why Umbro can affirm, with all certainty that the collection of products Umbro Cruz Azul is as always the most advanced in its class at a worldwide level.

The home jerseys weighs only 195 grams, 40 grams less than its predecessor, and the white 230 grams, 20 grams less than its predecessor.

This has been achieved thanks to an innovative chemical finishing system which repels moisture, using a lightweight layer of chemical covering.

This new system, is made based on a technical process which uses nano technology, which is based on utilizing molecules on a nano scale. To understand the dimension of this technology, suffice it to say that each nano molecule is one million times smaller than a grain of sand. But the nano technology does not only refer to the smallest dimension of the molecules, instead also to the materials used; and even more importantly, is how these nano molecules have been adhered to in order to carry out specific functions.

The traditional chemical layers applied to the fabrics, cause the fabrics to feel thicker and with blocked pores.
The nano treatments are sufficiently small to adhere to “individual fibers”, thereby obtaining with this a superior performance, a much better softness in the fabric and the comfort of the garment not sticking to the body nor maintaining moisture.

Chelsea Away Jersey Review

So, we just got one of the Chelsea Away Jerseys down in our offices in Birmingham, and now I'm going to tell you what I think about it. This isn't what adidas wants us to say, or what I'm supposed to say. This is what I really think.

The Clima-Cool fabric is very soft, as usual. And the mesh sections under the arms are very stretchy and breathable. You might be underwhelmed by the flashiness of this jersey if that's your thing. But I think that the Black color and subtle details make this jersey very wearable. It wouldn't draw too much attention, but is very clearly a Chelsea jersey (if that makes sense). As a matter of fact, if I were a Chelsea supporter, I would have no problem wearing it out to grab a beer, even in Alabama. Whereas, Chelsea's new Third Shirt might be a bit too flashy for me.

The real treats of this jersey are in the details. The badge is all black and white to match the kit. There are subtle patterns in the mesh under the arms. On the back, just below the collar, there is a nice imprint of the Chelsea Lion Logo. Even the small white sections on the edges of the sleeves add a little something to the shirt.

Verdict: Even though you wouldn't catch me in this shirt (not big on Chelsea, personally), this jersey is a very nice addition to any supporters collection. Black is always in, and yet it doesn't stand out. A perfect mix for wearing to the pub for a beer or to watch the match (or both).

Gunners Away ‘08/09 or ’89?

Arsenal revealed its away kit for the 2008/09 season, which is based on the iconic kit worn when the Club won the League Championship in dramatic style in 1989. The kit sees a return to a yellow and blue shirt - to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Club winning the League in the final match of the season, versus Liverpool at Anfield on 26th May 1989.

Produced by manufacturers Nike, the kit features a yellow and blue shirt with a red stripe down the sleeves and body. ‘Gunners’ is stamped on the neck and, as with the new Arsenal home shirt, this kit brings a welcome return to the Club's motto 'Victory through Harmony' from the Latin inscription 'Victoria Concordia Crescit', which is included in the inside neck of the shirt. The kit is made from Nike Dri-Fit, an innovative technology that enhances player performance by drawing sweat away from the body through to the fabric’s surface to evaporate, while its three-dimensional construction allows for more air space around the skin to reduce clinging.

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas said of the ’89 League win: “I was only two years old on that famous night, but I know the players are legends, everyone loves them and we all hope that we can do the same with this team. It is always a great feeling when you score or win a match, so imagine what it feels like if you win the League in those circumstances. Every player would like to live a moment like Michael did.”

Michael Thomas, Arsenal legend and scorer of the late dramatic goal at Anfield in 1989 said: “I get asked about the goal once or twice a day if I’m lucky! The feeling among the squad heading up there was fantastic. A month before George Graham had changed the back four to a back five so it was great for us attacking midfield players, we just had to attack and have no fear. Bringing the trophy back south was an honour in itself for me, it was just fantastic.”

Ex-Arsenal forward Alan Smith, who scored the first goal at Anfield in ’89 said: “It’s wonderful that this match is not just Arsenal folklore, but football folklore in general. Liverpool were the dominant force at the time and had a fantastic team. I remember going up on the coach and there was an element of ‘nothing to lose’. A headline in a newspaper that day was ‘Men against boys’, so we took that up and put it on the board in the dressing room! “George Graham told us just before we went out for the match to have no regrets, go out there and enjoy it and that’s what we did. It was just amazing to be involved that night. It was a great night for Arsenal Football Club, but I also remember the great acts of sportsmanship by Liverpool. Many stewards and police at Anfield congratulated us on the pitch, it was a very emotional time, and the Kop gave us a standing ovation which just shows the class of Liverpool. When we eventually got into the dressing room, the champagne was flowing and the journey back down the M6 and M1 just went like a flash.”

Hammers New Home Jersey

West Ham United revealed their new 08/09 home kit made by Umbro.

The claret and blue kit is made using Umbro's new Trilogy fabric - a thermodynamic performance-enhancing material designed to control vapor, moisture and heat, all those things that could hinder performance. If it could control injuries, the Hammers should have a fine season.

The new kit has a unique contrast v-weave on the back, making it an immediate fashion statement.

This shirt is the perfect complement to the already-released sky blue away kit released last month, and seen during the MLS All-Star game. The new home strip is expected to be equally popular for fans wanting to follow their favorite London club in style next season.
